
Biography
Devia Williams is a second-year graduate student at Van Andel Institute in the Department of Metabolism and Nutritional Programming. Prior her Ph.D. journey, she left her home country, Jamaica, and completed her bachelor’s degree in biology at Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. Throughout that time, she participated in four internship opportunities, one of which included being an intern in the Burton Lab at Van Andel Institute. Early in her second year, Devia was granted the privilege to represent the Burton Lab at the Multifaceted Mitochondria: Cell Symposia conference in Barcelona, Spain, where she presented her research titled, “Investigating the identification of novel therapeutic targets for the treatment of mitochondrial fatty acid synthesis (mtFAS) deficiency.” To incorporate balance into her life, Devia finds enjoyment from hobbies which include reading, singing, cooking and baking.
